Social Story

Innovative Website - Social Story for Children with Autism

A leading pharmaceutical company developed a medication for sleep disorders in children with autism. Many children are reluctant to take tablets instead of syrup. One way to overcome this fear is through a social story designed to make the situation more accessible. We developed an advanced technological product based on personalized social stories for them.

Challenges

Educating the market is crucial, as many parents are hesitant to switch from syrup to tablets. Creating personalized content, such as tailored social stories for each child, is essential. Utilizing advanced technology to develop a system that allows for personalization and interactivity is a key focus. Additionally, ensuring the privacy of users' personal information through robust data security measures is paramount.

Solutions

We developed an advanced personalization system that allows parents to choose the child's name, gender, age, and photo, thus tailoring the story accurately to the child. We designed an intuitive user interface that is easy for both parents and children to use, providing an accessible user experience. We employed advanced data security technologies to protect personal information and expanded the target audience by translating the system into English and Russian.

Designing a Personalized User Experience for Children with Autism

Based on the gathered information, we developed a personalized web application that allows parents to go through a setup process and tailor the story to their child visually and cognitively. The application enables choosing parameters such as hairstyles, skin color, eye color, daily routines, and how the medication is taken. These parameters change the story and its content. Additionally, we implemented various techniques to encourage parents to persist in using the application.

Integrating Advanced Technologies for Personalized User Needs

During the specification phase, we developed a complex logic that presents varying content depending on the child's gender, method of taking the medication, sequence of actions, and cognitive level. The design phase involved a complex illustration project where we created illustrations for all story pages with the option to change the avatar according to the parents' choices.

Understanding the Special Needs of Children with Autism

The UX/UI process involved a deep understanding of the behavior of children with autism. We created a proper information architecture to design the system in a way that would be intuitive and easy to navigate for non-technical users. We focused on creating simple and understandable experiences - identifying the most important components and turning them into ones that are easy to learn and use, incorporating feedback from parents and therapists.

Rapid Development to Meet the Needs of Parents and Children

The project was one of the most challenging and interesting in terms of specification and design. Besides its high social value, the project was recently launched, and we eagerly await the initial feedback and the next stages of the project.

Research with the relevant audience and personalized design

These are the things that can change the user experience, especially when it comes to children on the autism spectrum. We are proud to be part of such a meaningful project and look forward to seeing its positive impact on children and parents.
