Affordance

Definition:

Affordances are hints that tell users what a particular element can provide us. On user interfaces, such affordances can communicate to users what can be performed on a screen.

Information:

Affordances are visual clues present in a design. They imply how a user should interact with something. Affordances help make the “interactive things” easier to pick out by providing users hints about how they should interact and what happens as soon as they do. For example, certain buttons on interfaces can afford a click or trigger a specific action.
